Some people look at authors and think, “That’s great for them, but it’s too late for me.” They imagine there was a window they missed, a version of themselves they should’ve been by now — more focused, more fearless, more established. But that belief is a lie dressed as logic. Writing doesn’t belong to the young or the early-bloomers. It belongs to the willing. Whether you’re 29 or 79, your words are still waiting for you. And more importantly — they’ve been shaped by everything you’ve lived through. The things that we have gone through, the experiences and lessons we have learned are all valuable content for authors.
As an author, many of my articles were written from personal experiences. When I wrote A Thread of Gnosis and Seasons of Life, both books were inspired by situations and events that happened to my family throughout life. Being an author requires intentionality. It means that you see the situations around you and the lessons you have learned as having meaning for not just you but for others as well. This isn’t a self centered way of living. You aren’t trying to gain approval from other people. Instead you are trying to use your experiences to inspire and encourage other people.
The voice whispering in your mind that you are behind is a lie. You’re not behind. You’re being reshaped. You are developing something turkey amazing and wonderful. Instead of just living your life, you are making an impact on others, with your life.
Life hasn’t delayed your writing; it’s deepened it. Every detour, heartbreak, job, or moment of doubt has given you material, perspective, and empathy that can’t be taught. You don’t need a perfect backstory — you just need to believe in yourself and trust your that perspective has value. Writers don’t arrive when everything is in place. They arrive the moment they choose to start.
So start. Write boldly. Write bravely. Write late at night or early in the moment before life gets busy. Creating can be messy and no one writes a perfect article. As long as you are willing to grow, believe in yourself and embrace the journey you are on, you are a success.
We all have a story to tell. God made us purpose of connecting with each other. Let God use your experiences to connect with others as you find your writer’s voice. What are you waiting for? The greatest journey of your life starts now.
