Imagine this: you’ve just finished a stunning photo, an incredible artwork, or a polished video you’ve poured hours into editing, creating layers, fine tuning every detail, and you finally upload it to your social channels. This is a huge moment for your brand or your concept that you’re trying to share with the world. Now imagine this. Someone shares your work online without your permission. There’s no credit, no link back to you, and no way for people to know it’s yours. That has happened to to me more than once, and it’s exactly why water marking became a must-have for my projects. But what is water marking? Simply put, it’s adding a small logo or brand mark to your images or videos, usually in the corner, so your ownership is always clear. For photographers or graphic designers, tools like Canva or even Apple’s photo app make it super easy to do this. Just paste your logo, adjust the size or opacity, that determines how sethrough the image can be over top of your artwork, and boom, your work is protected. For video creators, editing programs like File Cut Pro, Da Vinci Resolve, and other apps, let you add your logo directly onto the timeline, you can adjust the transparency, which is basically the same as opacity, make it subtle, but visible, and suddenly your brand is embedded in every frame of your project. Watermarking isn’t just about protecting your intellectual property. It’s also about building a recognizable and consistent brand. Think about the different brands and companies that we use. Some of them, like Apple, are instantly recognizable because of the branding and logo that they put on all of their products. In our fast-paced digital world, your content is shared, reshared, and sometimes even repurposed without your knowledge. A watermark ensures that no matter where it goes, people always know it came from you. If you want to dive even deeper into growing your online presence, I’ve created a resource for you. It’s called The Wise Thinker’s Help Desk. This section of my website, Deep Dive dives into how to protect your work and how to make sure that it’s easily recognized as your own. So digital creators, don’t just create a project. Watermark your content, build your brand, and make sure your work always speaks for you, even when you’re not around.
