Scenic Reflections: Paper Lanterns – A Moment of Stillness and Light

J.E. Nickerson I Scenic Reflections

The night is still, the kind of stillness that hums quietly beneath the surface. You can hear the faint ripple of water, the soft murmur of voices fading into the distance. Then—one by one—tiny sparks of gold begin to bloom. As the night sky lights up, take a deep breath.

Watch the paper lanterns. Floating. Flickering. Rising.

Each one drifts upward as if drawn by an invisible pulse. The air smells faintly of wax and cool night wind, and for a moment, it feels like the world has forgotten how to rush. Time slows. The water mirrors the sky, every reflection shimmering like a heartbeat in motion.

Take a deep breath and let the stress float away as the lanterns carry their light higher, some steady, some trembling, all of them radiant in their imperfection.

Writer’s takeaway

It’s hard not to think of how we move through life the same way as the lanterns—fragile, glowing, finding balance between falling and rising. Let the words you share and the stories you create spread your light to the world. When it gets hard, breathe, pause and let the stress float away.

As the last lantern fades into the dark, the silence it leaves behind feels holy—like the world just exhaled.
