Good morning, and welcome to Heart of Writing. I’m John Edward Nickerson.
I can hardly believe we’ve made it to the end of this series. What an incredible journey it’s been with you! Over the past twenty weeks, we’ve explored the craft of writing from every angle—character, plot, setting, moral complexity, suspense, and heart.
Here’s a quick look back at what we’ve covered together:
• Character Growth: Stretching your characters by putting them in unfamiliar and dangerous situations.
• Subtext and Tension: Using unspoken thoughts and hidden motives to reveal depth, protect characters, and create suspense.
• Moral Compass: Crafting characters who question their motives, wrestle with ethical dilemmas, and make decisions that drive the story forward.
• Stakes and Pressure: Learning from legal thrillers how to make stakes deeply personal, turning ordinary people into heroes under emotional pressure.
We’ve done more than just learn techniques—we’ve built a toolkit for creating stories that matter, stories that challenge readers, and stories that leave a lasting impression.
As this series closes, remember: this is not the end of your writing journey. Every story you tell, every character you breathe life into, and every word you place on the page is part of your growth as an author.
If you’re ready to take the next step with your completed manuscript, my book You Are the Author: Creating and Selling Your First Book will guide you through self-publishing on Amazon and Apple Books, from start to finish. It’s available in digital and paperback editions, giving you the tools to bring your words to the world.
Thank you for trusting me to walk beside you on this journey. Keep writing from the heart. Keep believing in your voice and vision. Your words matter.
From all of us at Heart of Writing, congratulations on completing this series. Keep practicing, keep creating, and keep sharing your stories.
