Previous: 10 The Man In The Booth
“Some people want to know what the future holds. But knowledge doesn’t always show us what we want to see.”
J.E. Nickerson
Sarah stepped into the room and stopped. The air was different. Not thinner but colder in the way it was when something was there she couldn’t see.
She took a breath that didn’t fill her lungs. That’s when the pressure in her back returned.
The premonition didn’t return slowly. The vision broke like lightening. She stood in the middle of the street. The smell of charred rubber and twisted metal filled her nose.
Several feet away a child screamed.
Sarah looked toward the sound. The child was trapped under the frame of the coupe, half buried in the mud.
Sarah couldn’t reach the child.
She never could.
All she could do was watch and wait for the vision to fade.
When the vision faded, Sarah stood in the center of her room. The curtains were still drawn.
The AC clicked off.
She didn’t know where the girl was. She never knew where the people she saw were. All she knew was that she witnessed things she could never change.
