Sometimes, a story takes you in a direction you never expected.
Almost a year ago, I stepped away from writing children’s books and shifted my attention toward the Samantha Leary crime thrillers, psychological thrillers, and Quiet Pressure Thrillers. These stories represented a new chapter in my writing career, focusing on mature audiences and darker subject matter.
At the time, I told myself I was finished writing children’s stories.
Apparently, I wasn’t quite finished after all.
Today, I’m developing an entirely new series called The Cat’s Canary, aimed at readers ages 12–18. While this marks a return to younger audiences, the stories will explore something that has become an important part of my writing: mystery, suspense, supernatural elements, and the unexplained.
A House With a Mystery of Its Own
The series follows a cat and its canary as they explore the house once occupied by their former owners.
But the house holds secrets.
As the two companions begin exploring their surroundings, they encounter signs of something mysterious that was allowed into the house before the owners disappeared.
What happened to the people who once lived there?
Did something make them disappear?
What exactly was allowed inside?
And what does it want?
These questions form the foundation of a series built around an unusual partnership, a mysterious house, and something that may be far more dangerous than either of them realizes.
Book One: The Little Brass Cage
The first installment, The Cat’s Canary: The Little Brass Cage, will introduce readers to this unusual pair and the mystery surrounding their home.
I’m currently developing the story and working on bringing this new world to life. This is a different direction from the adult thrillers I’ve spent the past year writing, but it also gives me an opportunity to explore suspense and the supernatural through a different perspective.
Sometimes, returning to something you thought you’d left behind leads to an entirely new adventure.
Follow the Journey
The Cat’s Canary is a new project, and I’ll be sharing updates as the first book takes shape.
There’s a house full of unanswered questions, two unlikely companions, and something waiting to be discovered.
One thing is certain: not everything that enters a house leaves when its owners disappear.
Welcome to The Cat’s Canary.
