Previous 42 The Novelist A Dark Psychological Thriller
Evan had finally found a place where he could be himself.
The Open Canopy is a secluded community where adults come together without judgment, free to explore relationships and encounters they would never discuss with the people in their lives outside the group. For Evan, it has become a place where he can escape the expectations of the outside world—and where he has formed a genuine connection with Lena.
Then, after a private rendezvous with Evan, Lena is found dead.
Suddenly, the life Evan thought he had kept separate from the outside world is exposed. The police discover that he was one of the last people known to have been with her, and his connection to The Open Canopy makes him an obvious suspect.
Evan knows he didn’t kill Lena.
But proving it won’t be easy.
As the investigation closes around him and another woman is found murdered, Evan begins to realize that something much more disturbing is happening inside The Open Canopy. Someone has been watching the members. Someone knows how the community works, understands its rules of anonymity, and knows exactly how to use that secrecy against the people who trust it.
The killer doesn’t is using the community as his hunting ground.
Desperate to clear his name before the police arrest him, Evan begins asking questions of the people who knew Lena. But every answer leads him deeper into a world where nobody uses real names, nobody talks about what happens outside the property, and everyone has something they want to keep hidden.
Then one woman tells Evan about a man she remembers.
A man who watched her too closely.
A man who made her feel uneasy for reasons she couldn’t explain.
And a man she remembers seeing near Lena.
Evan doesn’t know who the killer is.
He only knows that someone is using his life to cover their own crimes.
And if Evan can’t uncover the truth before the police decide they’ve found their killer, he may become the final victim of the other man.
