Previous 11 The Woman He Knew

“Trusting someone requires that you know them. But you can never know every version of one person.”

J.E. Nickerson

Trevon stepped into the room and watched the woman turn and look at him.

They never talked much. Only when he stepped into the room. She moved closer to him, a faint limp in her step. He smiled at her and leaned in as she gripped his arm and pulled him down into a kiss.

“I have what you want, hun,” she whispered against his lips, pulling his towering frame lower as she slipped her hand into her pants pocket. Her fingers brushed a packet full of white powder and removed it, holding it with two fingers.

“Hmmm, ya know how I like it, baby,” Trevon said as he slid his hand down her smooth, thick arm and took the packet from her.

The woman gave a faint smirk and backed up, resting her thick lower half on the edge of the bed, leaning forward and rubbing her thighs.

“Police were by here earlier,” she said, her eyes tracking his movements.

Trevon reached over and picked up the glass plate from the nightstand, ignoring the crumbs on it. He slowly opened the packet and dumped some of the powder on the plate. The whiteness of it caught the flat glare of the bulb above them. Trevon reached into his back pocket and removed a twenty-dollar bill, rolling it into a tight straw.

“Police don’t know nothing,” he muttered as he held the straw over the powder and pressed a finger to his other nostril. With a heavy inhale, he watched as the powder was sucked through the straw, the tingle almost instant as it hit his system.

He sniffled and handed the makeshift straw to the woman.

“This shit isn’t like the stuff Marcus has.”

“Best I could get.” She inhaled the powder and leaned back, spreading her thick legs enough to show her lack of underwear. “Thought the police would storm the door. Rosa managed to hold them off. The pigs.” Her voice was gravelly, evidence of the pack she had already polished off that day.

“We have to talk,” she said as she leaned back further, watching his reaction as she crossed her legs. “You gotta stop driving round back. People’ll notice the marks, and we can’t afford for that dat SUV to get stuck.”

Trevon nodded and climbed into bed, his knees leaving indents in the mattress as he lay next to her, brushing his mouth against the hollow of her throat.

“Let me worry bout that.” His breath was hot against her neck as he felt the powder run its course through his system.

The woman turned and pulled him closer, wrapping her legs and arms around him.

“I gotta go, baby,” he said as he felt her slide thick fingers through his hair. The warmth of the room increased as his pulse picked up.

“Stay,” she whispered, pressing a dry kiss to his forehead.

“I can’t, woman. You know I have to make that delivery tonight. Drake’s probably already waitin’.”

Trevon pulled back. Sheena was good company for what he needed. But now wasn’t the time for it. His vision swam as he leaned down to take another hit.

“Oh my God,” he muttered. “What the hell’s in… in this—”

His words slurred as he felt his body pitch forward, his vision blurring.

The last thing Trevon saw as he felt his legs give out was Sheena’s dark hair as she knelt over him.
